    • 25 multiple-choice questions worth 4 points each, in 90 minutes. Several options can be correct, with partial credit.6
    • Pass with 55% of the 100 points and at least 20 points in each of the two parts. It is written in the main exam week.6

    Entrance test (WISO, WiRe, BBE)

    • Multiple choice with partial credit: part of the points for each correct tick, a deduction for each wrong one, never below zero.7
    • WU publishes information on the 2027/28 procedure in mid-November. The 2026 procedure, step by step, is on the entrance-test page.8

Both shares are our calculation from WU’s grade distribution (data as of 21 July 2026): for each exam date the number who sat it times the share graded “Nicht genügend”, summed over all 18 dates of the table and divided by all attempts. WU rounds the shares to whole percent; it counts attempts, not people.

    Timed and scored as on exam day: in mathematics (CBK) 0.25 off from the fourth wrong answer1, in the entrance test with partial credit.7

Only those who complete the admission procedure successfully can enrol. In 2026 far more people sat the exam than there were places in all three programmes; for BBE, more than ten times as many.

Frequently asked questions

How is the mathematics exam in the CBK graded?

The exam has 20 multiple-choice items with 5 options each, exactly one of which is correct. A correct answer earns 1 point, a wrong one costs 0.25 points, a blank one 0. The first 3 wrong answers count as blanks and cost nothing. The exam is passed from 11 points.1

What is the STEOP exam in economics and sustainable economy (VWL and ZuWi) like?

It has 25 multiple-choice questions worth 4 points each and lasts 90 minutes. Several options can be correct, and there is partial credit. 12 questions come from the economics part, 12 from the ZuWi part, and one belongs to both. You pass with 55% of the 100 points and need at least 20 points in each part.6

When are the dates for the 2027 WU admission procedure?

WU says it will publish information on the 2027/28 procedure in mid-November. For orientation: in 2026 WISO registration ran from 2 Mar 2026 to 19 May 2026; the entrance exam for WISO and BBE took place on 30 Jun 2026, for WiRe on 1 Jul 2026.81110

How many study places are there, and how many people sat the exam?

For the 2026/27 academic year there were 2,703 places in WISO, 870 in Business Law (WiRe) and 240 in Business and Economics (BBE). According to WU, 5,356 people sat the 2026 WISO exam, 2,260 the WiRe exam and 2,872 the BBE exam.8101112

How much does registration at WU cost?

In 2026 WU’s registration fee for WISO was €50. It is not refunded, even if you do not get a place. If you complete the procedure successfully and enrol, WU gives you a welcome voucher worth the fee.813

How is the WISO entrance exam graded?

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions only, with partial credit. Each correct option you tick earns part of the points, each wrong option you tick costs part of them, and no question goes below zero. WU does not publish the number of questions or how the three areas are weighted.87

Can I use a calculator in the WISO exam?

Yes. According to WU, any calculator is allowed that cannot solve systems of linear equations, multiply matrices, differentiate or integrate, and has no text memory. A formula sheet is provided with the exam.148

Is unipass run by WU?

No. unipass is an independent learning platform and is not affiliated with WU Vienna. Every statement about the procedure is backed by WU’s own pages and documents.
